Product Manager - Wound Care

Essential Functions:
As BSN Medical Product Manager you be responsible for increasing the profitability of existing products to identifying, developing and launching new products for the company. While working with Global Marketing in Hamburg Germany, you will build the Advanced Wound Care product portfolios from existing ideas, and help to develop new ideas based on your industry experience and your contact with customers and prospects. You must possess a unique blend of business and clinical savvy plus the drive to make that vision a reality. You must enjoy spending time in the market to understand the customer’s problems / issues, and find innovative solutions that effectively meets their needs.

You must be able to communicate with all areas of the company. You will work with Domestic and Global counterparts to define product release requirements. You will help design marketing communications to define the go-to-market strategy, product positioning, key benefits, pricing strategy and target customers. This includes planning, execution and monitoring of all product launches. You will also serve as the internal and external advocate for your product offering, collaboratively working with the sales channel, wound care specialists and key customers.

Strategic Plans:
  • Develop strategic product marketing plans and execute marketing / sales strategies for assigned Advanced Wound Care products.
  • Develop pre-launch and launch plans to maximize the effectiveness of new product introductions and phase-outs, subject to inventory availability and consumption.
  • Address all launch challenges including:
    • Strategic Challenges
      • Precisely defining the market
      • Developing a clear and compelling value proposition
      • Developing an entry strategy with milestones and KPIs
      • Understanding the buying process and its influencers and influences
    • Practical Challenges
      • Getting alignment in the organization
      • Building the route to market-support throughout the channels to market
      • Understanding the steps to getting sales & building the tools and programs to get there
Marketing Responsibility:
  • Experience in all aspects of developing and implementing product marketing strategies.
  • Conduct market research to determine market requirements for existing and future products.
  • Analysis of customer research, current market conditions and competitor information.
  • Develops and implements short and long term marketing plans for designated area of responsibility.
  • Develops and implements detailed project plan from concept to commercialization for U.S. market.
  • Develops detailed pre-launch and launch plans.
  • Identify and develop Advanced Wound Care product portfolio to be competitive in Hospital and selected channels.
  • Coordinates and ensure follow through on launch and marketing plans and programs with US sales teams.
  • Manage product-related support, feedback and inquiries from users.  Use market feedback to inform product refinements and ongoing development.
  • Experience in both direct and indirect marketing, including digital, internet, and social networking.
  • Upstream and downstream marketing experience
  • Manage the productivity of the marketing plans and projects.
  • Defines the requirements for product training seminars.
  • Monitors competitive activity with competing product lines.
  • Develops and maintains availability of product literature, technical information, competitor information, sales information, customer training materials, samples and product availability information to the distributors and Sales Representatives.
  • Develops forecast by product and product line.
Financial Responsibility:
  • Maintains and monitors sales and profit margins for product line.
  • Manages expense related to the area of responsibility.
  • Establishes and manages annual Advertising & Promotion budget.
  • Works with Global Marketing and US finance and management to develop and manage budgets.
Communication:
  • Establish positive working relationship with Sales, R&D, Global Marketing and Manufacturing.  Provide programs, pricing, literature, and product information to the Sales and Detailing organizations, as well as distribution channels.
  • Develops and delivers sales training materials in combination with Training Manager to ensure an adequately trained sales force.
  • Provides field assistance to sales team, with regular field travel ( > 30% ).
  • Develops working relationships with key decision makers to expand business base through value added activity.
  • Strong team player.
Product Development / Portfolio Management:
  • Define the long term strategy of the product and create product roadmaps.
  • Assists in the identification / initiation / development of product improvements / line extensions and new product design.
  • Identify opportunities for product innovation and product enhancements.
  • Negotiate agreements with outside vendor(s) as needed.
  • Provide recommendations on SKU rationalization and product discontinuance.
  • Provide input on cost savings projects and product improvements
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
  • BS degree or equivalent in Marketing, Business Management, Healthcare or related field.  MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • 2-5 years Sales and 3-7 years Marketing experience within healthcare. 
  • Knowledge and experience in Advanced Wound Care. Acute Care experience a plus
  • Presentation skills and expertise in conducting both internal and field-based seminars.
  • Understanding of US reimbursement systems.
  • Strong interpersonal, persuasion, and negotiation skills required.
  • Documented track record of career successful and progression.
  • Organizational and planning skills a must.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent quantitative, financial, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office Suite skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook).
  • Proficient in the use of mobile devices for Marketing purposes.
  • Travel – 10%, including international on occasion
